Purpose and Objectives



General Purpose

To provide an overview of pressure ulcer identification and staging, pressure ulcer survey procedures, and pressure ulcer prevention for accuracy in data collection.


Learning Objectives

After reviewing the training modules and passing module tests, you will be able to:

  • Accurately classify/stage pressure ulcers from photographs and wound description
  • Differentiate a pressure ulcer from other types of wounds and skin injuries
  • Describe pressure ulcer data collection procedures
  • Describe pressure ulcer risk assessment and prevention interventions
  • Distinguish among a community-acquired, hospital-acquired, and unit-acquired pressure ulcer
